what a way to start the week, i have 2 customers with the same issue. both have an aria 34e and both have analogue lines with a newly installed voice mail card.
the voice mail works fine there is no bother with it at all unless the incoming caller decides not to press # to leave a message as instructed as the line they have called in on keeps calling back despite the fact the caller has hung up their phone.
the receptionists either turn down their volume controls as it becomes irratating or they answer the call to find no-one on the other end.
i appreciate that the problem is because of the lines being analogue and if i could convince them to change to isdn or to upgrade their equipment we could by-pass this but they like their 34e's and really just want a solution to all of the phantom calling.
so does anyone have a suggestion or has anyone else come across this before? i have been involved with systems for a number of years but this one with this machine has me stumped.
my thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

We had this one also. It is because a false B-answer has been made when the call arrives at the operator or group. Make an overflow to a station with voice mail or to a CCR with hang-up, so the call ends there.

thank you for the reply, i did play around with the attendant in a ring group which overflowed to a second one with no members with no joy and then i did the same with a ucd group without success. i did nothing different to any other time, dnd/fwd into night service and 547 into voice mail and it is still playing about. in ring assignment, the attendant was no ring answer with a 10 second overflow so nothing out of the ordinary with the programming.
one particular site has had power issues and yesterday i took the card out, turned off the battery and then waited 10 minutes, just in case the card was affected but it didn't make any difference, with the age of some of the equipment it really should come as no surprise that there are issues.
i will maybe take a trip back there tomorrow and have a play again, i know what it should do and your reply confirms my thoughts but getting it to take notice is proving a challenge!! once i have cracked the problem i will then be better prepared for the second system, which is a whole further to travel.
thank you again.

Hi,

Looking through my 34e manual I see it supports open loop detection. If the telco can provide an loop disconnect on A party disconnection the system will clear down the CO and stop the phantom calls. PGMN 34 in the system, just set to match the telco expectation. System is in 100ms units.

Hope this helps.

exactly in the uk service provider 800m/s systen 500ms or 5 in your case in the open loop detect , could well be the issue

APSS (SME)
ACSS (SME)
ACIS (UC)

thanks for the updates, i ended up setting up an attendant message with the option of pressing 1 to leave a message which has worked out okay, i did have an issue with the voice mail asking me to press the 'pound' button which sounds ridiculous but that's a work in progress which i'll fathom out.
so thanks again everyone.
