Hi, all.

We're using Legato Backup Manager (BM) on a dual PPro 200Mhz server with 512Mb RAM connected via SCSI to a DLT tape robot to perform backups of 40+ servers.

We've just upgraded from UnixWare 2.1.3 to UnixWare 7.0.1, and from BM Networker 4.(something) to 5.

Performance following the upgrade was, to say the least, disappointing compared with the previous version we had been using. (To be blunt, it is totally pants in comparison with the old version.)

Our vendor has provided an upgrade to BM Power Edition free of charge to see if this will resolve the performance issues. Guess what... Yep, that's right, no change at all in performance :(

Just to make things even better, while trying to clone a backup set for keeping off-site, the entire system slows to a crawl. Within 10 minutes of the clone operation starting, the server has lost 2 minutes in time when you look at 'date'. It then starts to lose 1 to 2 minutes every 5 minutes of real time. Something definitely ain't right here :(

Has anyone here had experience of using BM 5 with UW 7.0.1? If so, any hints, tips, or pointers you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Andy
