I have a Windows 98 user who's left shift key no longer works. We have replaced her keyboard twice, and replaced the extender cable to the keyboard. I have even hooked her old keyboard (the one she had when she started having the problem) up to another pc and the left shift key works fine. It seems to be a setting on the pc, but everywhere I have looked, it says you cannot remap the SHIFT keys. Is this true? Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this?

Instead of replacing the extender cable, have you tried directly connecting different keyboards, not using it at all?
I've had some situations where some mobos would act unreliably if the keyboard signal was going though an extender...

I hooked up a USB keyboard to the pc and that left shift key works fine. Still do not know why the other keyboard left shift key did not work?

Hi
It could also be a driver problem.
Find out the driver/s path and name/s (Device Manager > Keyboards > Standard …> Driver File Details). Replace them with a copy from another machine.

If the above method does not work, then in safe mode delete all the Keyboard/s under Keyboards in Device manager and re-start you pc, when it finds your device let it load the drivers from OSes CD.
