Learning VBscripts

Hello psasu,
[1] The basic you will always refer to whatever your mastering of vbs will be is the ms documentation (.chm) free download at the same page as the windows script host (WSH) (now v2.0/v5.6).
[2] If you want to script html, you will tend to exercise more on javascript (for ms jscript dialect). With asp, more on vbscript.
[3] If you start with administrative path exploring windows os, then you use WSH. It comes with the os or upgradable by free download. Vbs and jscript (js) have equal attention. (But, tek-tips here has a very special and unbalanced mirroring on this by very much turn js away which is _very_ unfortunate, probably historically accidental? Javascript forum tends to take htm as its natural territory, whereas vbs forum is left as a natural question taker of wsh, hence, by its name intimidate and turn away legitimate questions using jscript dialect.) So you are advised to visit javascript and asp forum as well.
[4] By reflection, I think a book by G Born "Windows Script Host 2.0 Developer's Guide" published by Microsoft may be a good starting point. The book, though is not probing very deep on every topics touched, has distinguished blending of topics in vbs, js, wsf, wsc, html/xml which again by reflection has reader exposed to topics at early stage and at elementary level. I see vbs/js like a glue, let different technologies stick together. If you follow every simple exercise/example hand-on, you will find yourself able to do more creative things, sum a true understanding of the art rather than fettered by a portfolio of long and clumsy ready-made scripts.
[5] There really is not advanced level as far as vbscript is concerned. The development from its originator is practically stop which is not entirely a bad thing though leave much regret for those who wish this or that functionality be implemented. You don't need to chase after fashion/cool stuff sacrificing true understanding.
[6] Only there are more advanced/powerful technologies. It is there where more advanced topics of vbs present itself like being more advanced. Sometimes, the more advanced it looks like, the more ritual it actually is. Lines after lines of pre-fabricated block. But, it will get into your way naturally and does not need me to point out.
