LDAP and Exchange 5.5

Can anyone tell me if LDAP runs and/or coexists with Exchange 5.5? I'm trying to change email systems and I have to move all the mail from out old email system (Exchange 5.5) to a new email system (Exchange 2003 - in a new domain).

M$ has knowledgebase articles that explain (in detail) everything you will need to do to migrate the mailboxes from 5.5 to 2003.
I was once running 5.5 and I went through the migration process to 2000 with great success.
