my question is the step feature in the rdb - will this let me step to another rout if the original route is busy ?
or if I press the trunk group busy key for the route can I step to another route using the same access code

yes, that is what it was used for, now a second entry in ld 86 rlb does the same thing if your access is ac1 or ac2. sounds like your using acod which will allow a busy route step to the step target..

thats correct this is a beeper rout and if the main fails i want the operator to be able to press trunk group busy key and overflow to the backup route using the same access code

that will work, but i perfer using a steering code, then i can use a second entry to send the call to the second route. the operator need not be a part of the solution.
