When launching Word, it defaults to a document rather than a new blank document. When attempting to open a new blank document, it continues to default to this same document. How can a set all the defaults so that when launch word or opening a new document, it defaults to a blank page? Please update solution asap.

Thanks,

Claude

Your normal.dot template has been overwritten. The easiest way is just to rename it to something like normal.bad and let it recreate itself. I say rename because I never delete a file I'm manipulating until after I'm sure I've done it right.

If you want to edit it, then do the following:

1. Open Word and under Tools ->options on the file locations tab find out where the User Templates are located on your computer. This is where you will find normal.dot
2. Close Word.
3. Using Explorer, navigate to your normal.dot template
4. RIGHT CLICK on normal.dot and then left click open. DO NOT double click as that will only bring up a copy of the template. You'll know you have the original because it wil display as normal.dot NOT document 1.
5. Edit the template so that it is how you want a blank page to look. You can edit fonts, views, etc. as well if you like.
5. Go File ->save to save the edited template.
6. Go File ->exit.
7. Open Word and you should have the newly edited template.

Cheers.

Oops. Forgot to add that if you use Outlook and use Word as your mail editor be sure to close Outlook before attempting to edit normal.dot.
