I hate recycled Toners. I've seen more failures, and more problems caused by bad remaned cartridges.
I am an Authorized HP Printer Tech, and go on many services calls during the day. It's nice that some offer a guarantee on their cartridges, but I don't know how many times I've been on service calls for bad print quality, only to verify a bad cartridge.
With the LJ 4000 as an example, the local "refiller" sells them at $99.00. We sell the extended (X) Genuine HP Toner for $125.00, so you're saving $26.00 by getting a refill. But I charge my customers $95.00 per hour (1 hour min for onsite calls) to tell them they have a bad cartridge.
On a side note, I have an accounting firm that used to use the remanned cartridges. They soon realized that they were not getting the print yield from them, and they were replacing them more often, so they were actually spending more money. They soon realized that by buying Genuine HP, they were able to actually cut thier costs.
Because I work on printers all day long, I see the failure rate of both HP and remanned cartridges. I'm not saying the HP cartridges don't fail, but the failure rate is far less than those of the remanned.
And as a personal statement. I've owned a few HP Laser Printers, and would never use a remanned cartidge. I buy the Genuine HP toners because I know they are more reliable than the remanned, because I see it every day.
