Need to come up with a new dial plan. We have two G3 Rs and 53 G3si. For the most part all the SIs have the same extensions in them, all over the USA. The two Rs are in two different locations in the same state and town. I know we are not the first ones to run into this and I was just hoping to find out what some of you did to over come the new dial plan.

Everthing is changing!

You could look to add 2 digits to the beginning of your stations. The 2 digits would be "site identifiers" so for instance 22 could be Indiana, and 25 could be Ohio, etc. With that many sites, it's going to take quite a bit of work through your stations and dial plan itself I would imagine.

How many extensions are you looking at? If you want a Uniform Dial Plan, you may have to consider a 7-digit dial plan. This involves quite a bit of detailed work - I would invest in the expertise/best practice recommendations of either Avaya or Plat BP.

Just my opinion...

We are going to be using "Expert Services" for this upgrade. They have been asking us for the new dial plan. Each of the Si have a site ID (4 digit)+ 3 digit extension number. The Rs have no site ID and four digit extensions.
We are looking a a 7 digit plan, but where in the world do you start?

Sounds like you are already done. You just need to pick 2 unused digit strings (of 3 digits) to stick in from of each of the R's.

We migrated to S8710 ESS a few months ago (I think one of the first in the US) and did a similar thing. Our Dial Plan is going to 6 digits and we used site qualifiers (2 digit) in conjunction with the existing 4 digit extensions.

The decision on how to lay out the DP was easy.....convincing thousands of end-users and upper management that we needed to do so was not ;)

It sounds like you are already almost there since you have site id's plus ext for all the SI's...Just find unused site ID's for the R's and you should be cooking.

ESS fwiw is not as fleshed out as I would have liked, but does work and work well once you get through the gotchas. We were ESS within 2 weeks of 3.0 going GA so some of the gotchas came from Avaya-BP lack of knowledge...Some of that should have disipated by now.
