Hello,

We are in the market of purchasing a laptop to use as a testing machine. We will be installing at least Linux and Windows 2000 on the machine. However, it will not be a dual-boot machine. Instead we will be using software that will allow us to install Windows 2000 in a folder and have LInux as the primary OS. This software tricks Windows 2000 in believing it has its own partition.
The primary reason behind this type of set up is one we are fairly new with Linux, and want a test machine and more importantly is that we want to use it to test the security of both OS's.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of Laptop to purchase?

It will have to run efficiently with Linux, Windows 2000, a firewall package, and possibly a virus software package installed.
Any help or suggestions would be greatlt appreciated.

Thanks Joe

Personally, I would recommend going with a Dell Inspiron. We are stricly a Dell site and have had very little trouble with the Dells. Of course, there is always a system that comes along that is a problem, but we've had very few problems with them and the support/service from Dell is pretty good as well.

I'd agree with LadyH on the Dells. Tough machines.
The NEC Vera series is also quite reliable, as is the Toshiba Satellite range.

I would recommend also the Compaq ARAMADA... The Dell are very nice and very powerfull (keep it in mind)

Good luck AK
