Hi,

I got a Toshiba satellite pro 6100. Worked perfect for the last 8 months. Then 4 weeks ago it started stopping because of overheating.
I downloaded the software fan.exe to control the fan, but even with the fan on permanently and the cpu on low speed (P4 1.7 running at 1.1), it still overheats after a while and it is about 25C in my office.
I have then removed the keyboard and put an extra external fan above the CPU and VGA card, but still overheats.

I've noticed than in the evening when the temp. is cooler, it tends to last longer.

It seems to me that the threshold temperature at which the overheating event occurs is now too low.

Is that possible ?
How to solve this ?
Upgrade BIOS ?

Thanks for your support.

Go into bios and check and see if there are settings for the system temps. It may be that somehow it got reset and is set to low.

There is none. The bios is very limited and there are just a few common settings, but nothing about temperature.

Is it possible that BIOS values change due e.g. to a power surge ?

Is it still under warranty? I just sent out a sat pro 6000 because of the same problem(5 days before it expired) It reached the point where it just wouldn't come on at all. They are replacing the board so we will see how long it lasts when it gets back....

Yes, it is still under warranty, but I am not in a country with a warranty center, so I'll have to wait when I get back.

Do you think that re-flashing the bios is a good idea or is too risky ?
