Can anyone help please? – My friend uses a Toshiba laptop. Model Satellite 1800 – 712.
It is never used anywhere else but in the house and is constantly powered from the mains. (Therefore the battery is obviously charged to 100%)

The problem is: - Every now and then the computer just decides to shut itself off with no warning at all.

Any suggestions as to why it does this?

The power saver features are set to the Toshiba defaults.

On your desktop ->properties, on the screensaver tab, down at the bottom there's a monitor power button. Click on that and select "always on" for both the monitor and HDD for when the laptop is on AC power. Leave the battery power settings alone, just in case your friend decides to take the laptop on the road.

Cheers.

i guess it's not a power problem, did you noticed a blue screen while shutting down?
