Laptop in the Frip?

Has anyone heard of this? My boss is having problems with his laptop and just told us this morning that he put it in the refrigerator. That didn't appear to help.
I'm thinking that if he did this because it was too hot, putting it in the frig is a short term fix.
Was wondering, too, if that could cause any damage to it.
Also, he said that it was an "accepted troubleshooting method" but I have never heard of such a thing.
Your thoughts?

Never heard of this, however, if the lap-top was too hot and was placed in the fridge, you run the risk of condensation forming on the parts that were hot. Interesting solution though, maybe hosing it down would help too.LOL Mike Brown CCA

Actually some people have had success with putting hard drives in the freezer for awhile and have been able to access them even if they could not before.

I have never heard of putting the whole system in the fridge, only a hard drive.

It sounds like VOO-DOO to me. We used to use "brogan maintenance" in the old days (Give it a swift kick and see if that fixed it). "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....."

Accepted practice in the "good old days" with stepper motor drives and 5" platters that were subject to changing track alignment. If spinrite couldnt't read 'em at room temperature icing it down was an option.
2 1/2 inch platters and coil positioners aren't subject to the same problems.
Not much difference with a freezer and leaving it in the car overnight.
Condensation forms on cold things exposed to warmer moist air, but unlikely to affect anything inside the box. Ed Fair
