I had a laptop which had a HDD fail error(sorry I can't remember the exact error) It was running Win2K and the HDD is an IBM travelstar 60G. I was unable to boot the laptop in safe mode.

I have placed in a external USB housing and attached to a PC running XP which can see a USB device in Device Manager but not as a drive in Explorer.

I have tried to see if I can recover it using Easeus or Acronis but they cannot see the drive and Acronis won't start with the drive attached it just hangs during start up but recovers when I disconnect the drive. Windows also does this when it starts with the faulty HDD attached via USB but as soon as I disconnect Windows spring into life.

Any help/suggestions will be appricated.

Do you see your drive in windows diskmanagement?

If not, EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard and Acronis cannot read it too.

I could see a device under Device Manager but not a drive in Explorer but when I ran either Acronis or EASEUS they could not see the drive.

This was via a USB external housing. I am getting an internal 2.5 - 3.5 converter to see if that can see it when I have it internal to the PC.
