Looking to upgrade the HD on my Thinkpad T40 (40 GB isn't getting it done). Anyone have any advice on a brand, and also on an upgrade strategy? I'd rather re-install Windows but that might not be possible right away, so image cloning would be needed. Thanks and happy holidays.

Upgrading should be straight forward...

as to imaging: you can use a commercial imager such as GHOST, or Acronis True Image... or use the freeware version of GHOST...
FOG - Free, Open-Source Imaging Solution

Hardware: just make sure that the drive you wish to purchase has the correct interface, and I believe the T40 has the IDE44 standard (no SATA yet)...

The following is just an exsample:

I would go for WD, Seagate or Maxtor
Acronis True Image would be my choice for imaging the old drive.
