laptop hard drive to upgrade from ibm 6Gb travelstar

I wish to upgrade the hard drive in my
Dell laptop - cpi d266xt
to something larger (at least 12 Gb) and have been looking around for second had and new drives

Can anyone tell me what I have to look out for?

Your laptop should cope with a 7,200 or 5,400rpm 20 - 30 Gb drive - this will give a decent speed boost, too.

You may need to update your Bios to use a larger drive.

Make sure you don't get a drive higher than 9.5mm - it won't fit!

Download all of your hardware drivers from Dell.

Ensure you have a backup of all your important data.

You will need to boot from your OS disk to install.
