Can anyone help me with this one? I have a Gateway SOLO 5300 laptop and I am running XP and all of a sudden when I try to bootup the machine, it goes into the advance start-up mode and give me a selection of the usual:
-safe mode
-safe mode w/command prompt
-safe mode w/networking
-Last Known Good
-Directory Services
-Debugging
-Start normallly

I have tried all of these options and I get a screen that flashes and I think says something about a physical memory dump and a something about hives........Any clues on this one???

Try booting from your windows XP CD, you may wish to try a repair reature to start with,

If this locks then you will have to a complete re-install, although this does not mean you loose your files you will loose all windoews updates etc that you have run.

If this fails then you may have a disk error.

That did it....Now I am getting the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of......

I went to microsoft and they gave me the idea of loading Dr. Watson to trap user-mode program errors but when I type in the command the computer says it does not recognize the command......any solutions to this problem

I want you to access Recovery Console, booting from the XP CD: (from: )

Note To start the computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM, you must configure the basic input/output system (BIOS) of the computer to start from your CD-ROM drive.

To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation.

Then follow exactly the instructions in:
If no joy from this process, do:

now I cannot get the screen to come on......I push the power button and I hear the fan spinning but I see no picture on the screen.

Now as I bootup I have no lights and no screen but I hear the Fan going. I tried to swap out the HD but it still does the same thing. I tried to save my data my using an adapter but I get a red light on the adapter and I see no new drive displayed on my desktop......Any ideas??????
