Hi,

Have a problem with a laptop connecting to an LCD monitor. It had been working perfectly for over a year. The monitor is fine, because other systems can connect to it.

The same laptop refuses to see another monitor as well. I presume that there is some form of file corruption on the laptop. I did reinstall the monitor drivers, but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Julian

The laptop's monitor port may be bad.

Probably the monitor port is bad as ski said.
About the only way to find out is to mess with the settings in display properties and perhaps, in the end, installing of your os over top of itself as perhaps you could have a corrupt video file somewhere in the system.

An external monitor is activated by a Fn + (?) key. Have you accidently hit this key combination, turning the external port off?

Good point, micker, i forgot about that one, dont use a laptop very much!

Hi...you guys are referring to the Fn F8 button that toggles between the different screen formats...

I tried that - its definitely not that. Like I said, it had been working perfectly for months without problem.

When I use Fn F8, the laptop screen flickers as per normal, but the monitor does not respond at all.

I think that it is most likely a hardware issue...such as blown CGA port - probably best to just log a call with Dell regarding the issue.

Thanks,

Julian
