I have a dell inspiron and after having it on for about a 30 minutes it starts to get really hot, then after about a hour the bottom of it gets so hot i can not even touch it. The fan in the back of it does not work i dont know if its suppose to be on all the time. Because when i run a system test on the computer both fans work. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks....

I use this, freeware:

You should also check to make sure your BIOS revision is current. It seems every BIOS revision has changed the fan behavior in some for or other. There was a period when the fans rarely came on unless the machine was nearly melting it seemed. This was to preserve battery life and answer complaints of fan noise. The later BIOS revisions increased the fan activity and lowered the temperature in which the fans were kicked on.

But the utility above works great for nearly all versions of Windows.
