I have setup a vpn from LAN"A" to LAN"B" - all ports are open - this posses as a risk...

What ports are recommended to open?

Need LAN"A" to view LAN"B" files on file servers
Need LAN"A" to collect email via outlook, from LAN"B" Exchange server.

Which ports need to be opened for running VPN

A: PPTP VPN uses TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE); L2TP: UDP Port 1701; IPSec: Pass IP protocol 50 and 51. Note: 47 is a protocol number and not TCP port. The protocol name is GRE. It'll make a big difference when configuring your firewall or router.

Actually, i think he wants to know what ports to allow through the vpn to allow sharing of files and access to email across the vpn, not what ports to allow a vpn to tunnel through a firewall.

Assuming that's the case, tcp and udp ports 135, 137-139 and 445 for file sharing, and for email see this link;
