I need help with a small LAN setup in my home. I have 1-Windows 2000 Server, 2-Windows XP Clients, D-Link Router, and Internet access via cable modem. Currently, I'm using DHCP on the router, and have the server setup as a workgroup server. I would like to setup more of a real world business setup with my 2000 Server.

What is the best way to share my internet connection so that my ports for Microsoft Messenger work?

Should I use DHCP on the router or the server?

Any suggestions for configurations would be greatly appreciated. Please list as much detail as possible.

Thanks!

DHCP on your router should be fine (or you can use it on your server if you want experience setting it up). You should be able to do port forwarding on your router (I don't know MSN's port off the top of my head) and forward it to one of your machiens (which will need to have a static IP). If you have access to it, try using your Win2000 Server w/ISA server and setup a proxy for your clients. Darrell Mozingo
