I hope someome can shed some light here.

I've successfully created a working vpn using an SMC7004wfw as a vpn server.
Two xp-pro machines local and two xp-pro machines remote that connect using the xp vpn client(through smc7004vbr).

My ultimate goal is to have a "virtual lan" that will work with any game that does not allow direct ip connections(I hate gamespy).

I can ping/browse internally and remotely from both ends and it appears that the vpn is working perfectly. My dilemna is that I cannot, however, "see" games created unless from an internal lan machine(and vice versa remotely). Also, I CAN join the same games I can't "see" if I connect via ip(not all games allow this).

I've searched a bit on this topic(not much out there) and I believe in my limited knowledge that the problem relates to certain udp packets used by the games not being routed over the vpn.

Is this correct? And, if so, how do I resolve it? Has anyone gotten this to work? If so, how did you do it?

And the neverending question... Why does my girlfriend hate my computer!?

Please impart your wisdom!!! ;-)

I've tried adding routes thinking that maybe one of the routers is killing me, but since I can already browse and ping successfully I'm not sure what this would change or if I'm even doing it correctly.

I've spent hours searching and trying to figure this out. Any help would be very, very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello -
Just like me always thinking of the important stuff like how to get the damn games to work :) I am new to this as well but I recently had to do the same thing except my game communicated over IPX - I believe you said yours was IP - Anyway what I did is enable NETBIOS broadcast info to pass through the VPN and boom my game was listed. Again not sure if this helps - just figured I would try. Let me know what you end up doing. Later

Oh yeah as far as the girlfriend thing goes - I hope to oneday find the anwser myself. It's like she is jeolous of my computer or something - I don't know why I only spend HALF of my day on it :) some chicks are just strange :)

Hey - thanks very much for the reply - I'm not sure whether my router(SMC7004WFW) supports netbios broadcasts over vpn but I'll look into it.

I'll let you know if it works out.

Thanks again...
