I believe the EIA/TIA 606 standards won't allow hand written labels of any type any more, just FYI.
Also, if you are Link Testing it is essential that the patch cord stay in place at the work station outlet. To that point, it might be practical to print and wrap a label on the patch cord with the workstation outlet number on it so that it is an easy check to make sure the correct cord is in place.
We use a brady labeler that lets you print the label, then the clear plastic tail wraps around the wire and over the printed part of the label so it is permanent.
