I have two short 1U boxes connected on an internal network and the instructions on how to toggle between machines with the moniter are either wrong or I am completely out of my mind (strong possibility). Anyway...if anyone knows the solution to this deal let me know.

Don't understand the problem. You haven't told the whole story.
KVM switches generally are powered through the keyboard connections or by external power connected through a keyboard connection.
Each processor should be connected with 3 connectors to the KVM switch and the keyboard, mouse, and monitor should be connectd to the common area of the KVM switch. Ed Fair
