KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED during installation of WIN2K

I having the above error while trying to install a fresh copy of Windows 2000 advanced server. I am not sure what to do since I have formatted the drive(NTFS) a couple of times and it still gives me the same error. The first round of installation goes ok. But when the computer boots up, it stops midway and gives me the address for the name with the name "emu10k1.sys".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That type of error is caused by a driver or hardware problem. Usually the exception address (the second parameter) pinpoints the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address. If there hasn't been any recent drivers installed on your system try to reseat the CPU(s), memory, cache, VRAM, BIOS, and any other chips that may have creeped out of their sockets. Sounds wierd but it works sometimes.

What is more surprising is that I am trying to re-install the OS fresh and it is still not letting me do it.

I think I have solved the issue. There seems to be a problem with my sound card.

hehe hey Antzz. Glad you got it resolved. Strange how a sound card can interfer with an install like that. When ever you see that error from my own experiences 90% of the time the culprit is some kind of hardware problem. -Brad

I know. It was freaking me out all of yesterday and then today too. But well, I was trying to install a video capture card the other day. It is possible that it was responsible for modifying some settings on my sound card. Anyways, I have learnt something new today.
