Hi there,
I am integrating a new application into OV that will receive traps from one specific device and provide a survey of this devices SNMP values.

Right now I am using two different kinds of integration:
1) with a registration file, enabling an entry in the menu bar and in the context menu of the device.
2) as an "automatic action" that is executed each time a trap is received and that forwards the traps to my application.

======================================
Are there other kinds of integration?

How deep can I integrate?
1) Is there a possibility of communication back to OV (eg telling it that the problem is being handled and should be treated automatically in OVs "Alarm Browser"?
2) My programm will allow only a limited number of devices to be managed (defined by their IP-addresses) but will have to start to determine this. Is there a way to tell OV only to autostart the specific devices and to display the context menu entry only for these devices too?
(eg the user will have 2 devices but only device1 should be managable with my program while device2 should not support this).
======================================

Many questions, I know, but I would appreciate ALL kinds of info!!!

Thanx - Eddie

1 You could communicate back using opcmsg (in your automatic action), another template/policy could then "catch" those opcmg's and acknowledge the trap using the message identifier.

The automatic action could call opcmsg twice, once to say it is handling it and once to say that the problem has been resolved. The second would have a severity of normal and acknowledge the first. Mike
