I'm building a database application for a small company, and during testing, some users complained that if they tried to use keyboard shortcuts for special characters, such as ' + e becoming é, do not work. Since this seems to work fine on some computers and not on others, I suspected this is a matter of keyboard settings, but when I open up the control panel for this I can't find anything relating to it.

Does anybody know where I activate or deactivate this option? They're using various Windows versions here, 95, 98 and 2000 all through each other. I hope it works the same in all of them, but nothing surprises me anymore. :)

I usually use the <Alt>xxxx method to insert special characters if there's no symbol option as in Word for example. So, <Alt>0233 should produce é for you.

I do the same - I'm pretty used to using ALT codes for anything - but I've got a pack of stubborn users here who want their keyboard shortcuts. :) If there's no quick way to ensure they work on all systems, I'll tell them that, but I'd rather resolve the issue in a way they like, if possible.

Go into Control Panels and open Keyboard set up. Click on the language tab. Clink on Properties. Change the keyboard layout to United States - intenational.

The keystrokes ' + e will now give you the é. Mike

Looking good. Works fine on my system, will have to test it on the comps the complaints originated from, but this seems right. Thanks!
