keyboard problems;when i type a, i get q

I have XP in french. When I log in, I type my password and if I want the letter q, I have to type a.
When I want m, i have to type ;
BUT...when i log into windows, all the keys work fine. I have french and english languages installed.
This is a fresh installation of XP in french.
Any suggestions?

Is this a French Keyboard? Are they different from "QWERTY"? Please excuse my ignorance.
