Hi, i have a dell lattitude C600 running Windows 2000 Profesional. For some reason it will run fine for a couple minutes, and then either freeze or just shut off. I ran a hardware DX test and everything seems to have passed. Anyone have any sugestions?

Thanks,

if it still has the original hard drive there is a very good chance its lifetime may be ending.

during the boot-up cycle, when the dell logo appears, try hitting the keys "CTRL-ALT-D" a few times -- it should bring up the internal hard drive diagnostics. See if it passes those.

alternatively, you can go to dell's website and download their diagnostics and run the full suite. (you didnt specify which diags you used).

does this happen on A/C power - or battery - or both?

it might also be memory or a system board problem. do you notice whether or not the cooling fan on the bottom ever runs?

system hang on dell portables can be caused by the processor that isn't seated properly anymore.Open up the portable, and press down the proc in his slot.If that fails, it could be the motherboard ( leaking condensator ).I don't suspect HD failure, as you will certainly fail a diagnostics if the drive has gone bad.

regards,

R.
