i migrated my network from novell to MS Server2003. i changed the server with a brandnew server installed with a 2003 Server, TCPIP only with static ip address. i then changed the protocols of the workstations to tcipip with static ip adresses & removed netware protocols, user-level sharing. my problem is that, some workstations are always prompted to enter passwords when they share printers. initial solution is to restart the print server. tried changing the sharing to share-level but still, it prompts to login passwords. its the login dialog box with a dollar sign. how do i get rid of this?
any suggestion will be appreciated.
thanks,

I'm not sure I understand the situation here:

"my problem is that, some workstations are always prompted to enter passwords when they share printers."

Why are your workstations sharing printers? Do you have printers intalled directly on some workstations...then share these printers so other users can use them?

"initial solution is to restart the print server. tried changing the sharing to share-level but still, it prompts to login passwords."

Tried to change the sharing to share-level? What are you talking about here...

Is your Windows 2003 server configured as a domain? or is it just in a workgroup? You should probably configure a domain as this makes administration much more easy. If you are in a domain and users are getting prompted to enter passwords, there probably is a problem with the computer account in the domain. Re-join these workstations to the domain. Also, if you are in a domain and having problems, double check that DNS is working properly. Active Directory domains require DNS. Without DNS working properly, you may experience problems with authentication.

-hope this helps...

> yes, printers are shared from ws to other ws.

"Tried to change the sharing to share-level? What are you talking about here..."

>you have 2 sharing options in the network neighborhood properties: user-level & share-level

i tried dleting windows directory of 1 of the ws & reinstall win98, it worked fine. i suspected, it was the novell netware workstation program w/c was installed in all ws when it was still on a novell network. duno how to uninstall this except deleting windows & reinstalling again :(
