I found out a while back that I could not open file attachments using MS Outlook Express version 6. It turned out to be a blessing in disquise. It seems that many but not all viruses are activated when file attachments are opened for viewing. A friend of mine was attempting to send me some photos but I could not view them, because, as I found out later the security settings in MSOE had disabled this feature. I still use MSOE this way and have had no problems under XP with computer viruses (knock on wood). I told my friend about the problem and he agreed to use file insert and now we're both able to send photos a bit safer. I realize that this is not a cure-all for dealing with viruses, but it sure is comforting to know about protection I wasn't even aware of before this discovery.
