Is it possible to copy a folder/subfolders keeping thier rights in place, rather than the copy adopting the rights of the parent folder?

There's a tool called 'Permcopy' in the Win2K Resource Kit that will allow you to duplicate permissions from one share to another. I don't think it's W2K specific. The syntax would look like:

'permcopy \\sourceserver1 sharename1 \\destserver2 sharename2'

First you would just copy the files from one place to another, knowing that the permissions would be those of the root of the destination folder. Then you would use this tool You would want the destination server to have the exact same file structure as the source server, and using 'permcopy' would cause the permissions in the destination share to be a duplicate of those in the source.

That util didn't work for me I'm afraid - but (FYI) I did find a util in the reskit called SCOPY.EXE which copies folders and subfolders with thier security permissions intact.

And by golly it worked, thanks for the help anyway..!
