In my main report I have a multi-line detail section that is grouped by a date/time field. Within that detail section I have a subreport.

I want to keep the subreport together with the detail section, i.e., not start the next page with the subreport. If there is not enough room to print both, then start the detail on the next page.

I have tried just about every combination of the "Keep Together" property, but nothing works.

Is it because the subreport is variable in size?? When the subreport contains one record, it works fine.

Thanks in advance....

This is difficult because CR does not know how mush space is left on the page. Here's an idea to try:
Insert a new inner group on a unique detail field, so every group has only one detail. Put your data fields in this group header and put the subreport in the otherwise blank detail line. Right click in the left margin of the group header and select Change Group -- in this dialog, check "Keep Group Together" Let us know if this works.

let us come back to the "Keep Together"'s

your statement here bothers me:

"I have tried just about every combination of the "Keep Together" property, but nothing works."

I would have only one "Keep together" in this report

In the Section Expert you will see

Details
DetailsA
DetailsB
...etc...

the first one, Details, applies to the whole Details section whereas the others apply to individual groups.

I would:

1. remove all "Keep together"'s on individual section
2. Apply only a "keep together" to the DETAILS as a whole
3. In the subreport...I would remove ALL "keep togethers" .
this includes: Group/section and individual fields
4. Similarly I would remove all Group "Keep Togethers" in
the main report...as well as all Field "Group Togethers".
5. I would specifically look at and remove a "keep
together" on the subreport field in the main report.

I hope this works.... Jim Broadbent
