K7VZA motherboard problem. 2

Daughter purchase motherboard, 850Mhz CPU, 512Mb dimm memory, 32Mb graphics card, case, dvd etc to effectively
build herself a new system.

On commencing as per manual, she advanced to CPU on board, Graphics card in, memory in and hard disk attached, powered up to test and got 4/5 moderatel spaced beeps and systsem shut down although led still lit on board.

All efforts to resolve failed, she returned board, cpu, memory to ebuyer who claimed it was tested and that it worked. She started again with same problem.

Just spoke to ebuyer on the phone who suggested several things all with negative result. Can anyone offer advice or hopefully a solution.

If I simply power the board without CPU, no beeps but ebuyer have just changed cpu??

The best way to test a System is with just the cpu, board, memory, and Floppy, and a Cheap Video card, like maybe and older 1 meg 640 x 480 video card. No fancy registry tricks or ram shadowing or anything. Just a Boot Disk. Use plenty of fans, and if it has a temp sensor make sure you have a fan with the proper plug to make it work.

If you use cheap RAM, that can cause a board not to boot up. I had this problem with an A-OPEN motherboard. I ordered a different stick of Micron memory form Crucial and it worked just great.

Sometimes there is a jumper set wrong like for the RAM voltage, the CPU core voltage, the multiplier, or the Bus speed. Make sure the CPU is seated properly.

I installed a modem once and shorted out the power supply and I had it checked out and replaced. It was freaky; I put the cover on, hit the power button, and nothing worked.

Usually, whatever can go wrong will! If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

try it again. Is it one long and tree short beeps. If so, it is a video problem of some sort. If it is 4-5 beeps of the same duration and spacing, then it is likely a memory problem of some sort. The documentation for Award BIOS is not very good, so it may be something else also. INFORMATION RE K7VZA PROBLEM THAT I HAD LISTED ABOVE

I HAD ONLY FITTED A BOG STANDARD HEAT SINK AND FAN, POWERED FROM THE CASE POWER SUPPLY.
THIS BOARD HAS TO DETECT A FAN POWERED FROM THE SUPPLY ON THE MOTHERBOARD.
AS SOON AS NEW FAN FITTED AND PLUGGED ONTO BOARD, PROBLEM SOLVED.
THOUGHT THIS INFO WOULD BE HANDY FOR YOU ALL IN CASE WE GET ANYONE EXPERIENCING SAME THING

WOULD HAVE ASSUMED THA EBUYER.COM WOULD HAVE ASKED ME RE THE FAN WHEN SUPPOSEDLY ASSISTING ME OVER THE PHONE?
