I'm having trouble getting Win2K prof to install on a new ECS K7VZA (Rev 3.0) with an AMD 1200C.

I was able to install Win98SE and Win200prof initially, but as soon as they where installed and running, when the GUI (desktop) started they just frooze. (both 98 and W2K). I initially thought this was a clocking issue, so I reduced the K7VZA to 100FSB (the processor was then recognised as a 900Mhz instead) ..... and all worked, both in Win98 and Win2K.

I discussed this with the retailer that I bought the Board/CPU from and they said that I needed to disable ACPI in the BIOS. I did this and Win98 was fine at 1200Mhz. However the Win2K installation now caused the machine to reboot half way through start up ... So I formatted the Win2K partition and tried to reinstall it.
The re-install now hangs at restart ....

anyone any ideas please ? ? ? ?

Win2K will not run or reboot itself without ACPI turned on in the BIOS. Been there, done that and tried to do it. But never was able until ACPI was turned back on.

Win2K will work without ACPI. I've had to disable ACPI on my Win2K machine so that I can controll my IRQ's. Press F6 (or F8 - can't remember which) during install (at blue screen) and when asked for a Hardware layer select Standard PC. This will install Win2K without it looking for ACPI.

Thanks for the comments,

What I still can't understand, is why I have no issues at all when the board is set to run at 100FSB, but set it to 133 and I'm told that I need to turn ACPI off ..... This makes no sense to me.

The retailer knew of the issue with the 1200C processor, but had only recently found out implying that it is only above a certain speed that these problems seem to occur.
I've not managed to find the point when I can select the hardware layer, I just get offered the chnace to install 3rd party mass storage drivers ....
