I received several reports of Win9x machines over the last month "not getting connected" to our MF1.8 farm......wasn't paying too much heed as it was just one or two clients.
This jumped to 8 over the last week and now includes some Win2K clients also.
What happens:
You double click say "Desktop", "Connecting to Desktop" appears and then promptly disappears......during which the "Program Neighbourhood connection centre" icon appears in the system tray. If you monitor the conenction centre while trying to connect the connection appears there.....then disappears.
The weird info:
I've got the clients to try connecting to both a 1.8 farm adn also a MFXP farm, no difference. Also no difference whether via WebInterface or full client.
@ first I wasn't to bothered as it was restricted to Win9x (in process of killing them off) and the MF1.8 farm (in process of migrating MFXP native farm via clean builds with new farm).
The fact that this issue has now slipped into teh Win2K clients has be nervous.
It's not server related as the MFXP are "clean builds".

HELP????

when we had this problem we were getting license errors in the server's event log "unable to issue a client license".

the problem was that the server was unable to communicate with the ms license server.

This did the trick, found it on another posting..........whew!!!!

Export this registry key from a machine that can connect, then open it on the machines that cannot connect.

Hkey_local_Machine\software\microsoft\MSlicensing\store

Hi,

Isn't the the old bug that users on a W2K/XP machine don't have enough rights to the key that you're copying around.

If you change the security with RegEdt32 and give Domain Users rights, then they'll log on!

Cheers,
Carl.
