I just installed Exchange 2003. I can receive email from external and internal email address's, I can send email internall, but when I try to send it externally, I get the following error (I am using OE on the DC, while my other pc is waiting for a new mobo):

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'jonlake@post.com'. Subject '', Account: 'mail.procns.net', Server: 'mail.procns.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for jonlake@post.com', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Is this telling me my email server isn't sending out the address, or that it wants to but can't relay it anywhere? Thanks for your help.

Jon

'550 5.7.1 Unable to relay means the server does not accept you to realy indeed. If that is your own server telling you that, if means you don't have the permissions to use your server to send. Check those and make sure your internal LAN addresses are in the allowed list.

I think I've found what I need to do. The help file says to navigate in system manager to Servers>(server)>(list of things) to relay to all domains. However, I don't have a server section on system manager. All I have is Global Settings, Recipients, Administrative Groups, and Tools.

The server is in the Administrative Groups - 'Main Office' .
Click on the + in front of all to expand and you will reveal all.

What I'm looking for is a virtual server. They said to go to

System Manager>
Servers>
Server>
Protocols>
SMTP>
SMTP virtual servers>
SMTP virtual server

and set they relay. I don't have the servers section in system manger.

Like marcs said, it is under the administrative groups, then first administrative group. There you should be able to follow the path down to the smtp virtual server.

Check here as well, same thing, just longer
