Hey,
With workstations running the SERVER SERVICE, it is possible to map a drive to \\workstation\admin$. This is a hidden share so you have to do something like this from a command prompt to map to it:
Net Use * \\workstation\admin$
This share can also be seen Server Manager --> SHARES
(You don't have to map this drive in order to install the SMS client. I'm just saying that you could map a drive to it if you wanted to....just to verify that it is there.)
*********
Anyway, NT uses this default share for many things. SMS needs this share to install the SMS client...(i think...all's I really know is that without the Server Service running, I could not get the client to install.)
[From the client NT Workstation that you wish to install the SMS client software] To start the service, go to Control Panel --> SERVICES. (You have to have local administrative rights to do this) You will notice a service called SERVER SERVICE. There is an option to start the service. Go ahead and start the SERVER SERVICE. Once the SERVER SERVICE is started you can manually install the SMS client.
Hope this helps...
