Hi,

My problem is so stupid I am sure you guys have a simple and quick answer.

We have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server which crashed. It was fairly new so we rebuild it with the same domain name. Now all of our Windows XP workstations are refusing to logon to the domain. I presume that they have kept the rpofile of the previous (crashed) domain. I have changed the workstations to join a workgroup and then retried to join the domain. It refuses...... How can I get rid of the of the existing profile on the workstation so they can join the new domain with the same name?

We have tried to join the new domain with a virgin windows xp workstation and that works fine, but we need the already existing workstation to be able to join aswell with out rebuilding them.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help.

What's the error message you're getting? After you remove them from the domain and join a Workgroup, remove the Primary DNS suffix from their Network Properties as well. Then reboot and try to join the domain....

Hi, thank you for your fast response, I have removed the primary DNS suffix. Still not working, the messge I receive is:

A domain controller for the domain 'modular.be' could not be found.

in the details it inform me:

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain modular.be.

The error was: "no DNS servers confirgured for local system" (error code 0x0000267c DNS_error_NO_DNS_servers

The query was for the SRV record for_ldap_tcp.dc_msdc.modular.be

- The mistery is that when I use a virgin workstation I can join this domain no problem.

Thank for your help.

what DNS server are the workstations pointing to? When you rebuilt this DC, did you keep the same IP?

Yep, i used the same IP, at the moment the workstations get their IP no from the DHCP server and their is no pointer to a dns server.

you've got to supply the primary DNS IP then, either via DHCP or manually. Either way, they won't join anything without it...

well , i told you you guys will sort it out quickly, it now works, thank you for your help.

Need any hardware, I probably can help you, as a favour for your help.

Greetings,
