I recently had problems setting up my domain. BUT I think I'm just about there now.

However I still can't seem to join a w2k client machine to the domain.

It seems to be quite a common problem but I can't find any answers.

When I attempt to access another machine in the domain via network places I get the message:

\\PC_NAME is not accessible
There are currently no logon servers available to service your logon request.

And when I look in the event viewer I get:
Event ID 5719
No Windows NT or Windows 2000 domain controller is available for domain MY_DOMAIN . The following error occurred:
There are currently no logon servers available to service your request.

I've also noticed the following message in my event viewer on the server machine. not sure if it's relevant but I get:

Event ID 5781

Dynamic registration of one or more DNS records failed because no DNS servers are available.

Has anybody else had problems with this?

Another W2K machine I have attempted to join to the domian has other problems too. In fact I can't even succeed in ping localhost and netdiag suggests problems with the IP stack?.......looks like a reinstall on this machine though?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Charlie

Set your Win2k clients to use as DNS server the DNS server used by your AD. Once you will do this, the client will be able to record itself. Adn will also be able to query properly the DNS to find a DC.

thanks GiaBetiu for the help.

BUT I've found what the problem was. It was something to do with Norton SystemWorks or Norton Personal Firewall.

I removed these and all problems were sorted......

The domain is now configured and functioning fine.

Thanks again
