I wnat to join two string and form one and I want them all to display the second field at the end in the same place. I know there must be something simple but i haven't figured it out yet.
example
ingredient + packsize gives output like
apples each
eggs doz

what I want is

apples each
eggs doz

If you use a non-proportional font like Courier, you could use a formula like:

{table.ingredient} + space(25-len({table.ingredient})) + {table.packsize}

Change the "25" to reflect the space you want.

Note that in your example it doesn't do so, it's a tad tricky.

One solution would be to drop the fields into 2 text objects that are alongside each other, and are each stretched out enough to always hyave enough space for each field, formatting the first to left justify, the right text object to right justify.

Then the font doesn't matter.

Another potential solution might be a few tricks in a cross-tab, but the above should suffice.

thanks that works if I use that font , I never thought about that when working with it.
