I have managed to stump all the folks in the office here with this one.

I was working on my first database, coming along pretty well, and somehow, I managed to lock myself out? Only on my machine. I can go to another machine and access it, but I cannot get it to unlock on my machine (it is asking for a user name and password, as soon as I start Access. I cannot use Access at all on my machine, an dI have no clue what the user name and password are). I have looked and searched and can't figure it out....anyone know how to get it unlocked on MY machine? I have thought about killing my machine and rebuilding, but I REALLY hate to do that when I'm sure it is something I have just missed, and don't know where to find the answer.

Thanks for any help provided....

Matt

Find the file system.mdw and rename it.
Start Access.
You should now be able to get in without the login.

Well Lup,

I certainly appreciate the info, but it didn't work. I have deleted access from my machien and reinstalled it (twice now) and that hasn't worked either. Even deleted Office altogether and made sure to clean any trace of office off my machine and that didnt' do it either. Any other ideas.

The username/password prompt is controlled by the .mdw file.
If you really have renamed the existing system.mdw file and re-installed access there is no way it should be popping up a loginbox when you start Access. Are you definitely starting Access on its own and not from an application shortcut or double clicking a file?

I know it sounds freaky, and completely not possible. But, I can open access, and it looks normal, UNTIL I try and do anything. As soon as I try and open or change or do anything the pop-up appears after you click on anything. like I said I can go to any other machine and work just find.

When I followed your suggestion, I renamed the file, then did a search to make sure there weren't anymore of them out there. I can't use short cuts, or start Access from scratch. I even went the extra step and rebooted after I renamed the file and it didn't work.

Matt

As a last resort, search for any file with a .mdw extension.
Rename any you find and try again.

Well, I renamed every .mdw file I have(one of them), same problem. Even deleted it, but nothing doing. I went back and had everythign restored from a date BEFORE the problem began. Still not working. I'm just going to format and start from scratch on this one. It has reached a point where you start looking at it from the stand point of, is it better to waste a year trying to figure this out, OR start all over again and get it done in 6 months.

Thanks for the help....
