Greetings,

I have a user taking a online college class. He had been (past tense) able to do his work on any of our workstations, but now gets a javascript:publish error (status bar) error when trying to publish.

We are using XP SP1, IE6 SP1.

Not sure where to begin troubleshooting, I thought it was a web server issue, but apparently not.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

What do you mean by "when trying to publish"?

How do you "publish" JavaScript?

Can you post the code for the function/object "publish" and the code that calls the function?

Does "publish" popup a new window and is there a popup blocker on the computer?

If this is a site hosted by your school, have you tried talking to their tech support?

Adam

Whatever I feel like I wanna do, gosh!

I'll try to get the code, no pop-ups, kind of like webmail. I understand that you can't publish javascript, my bad for not making the problem clear. The publish button sends his homework to the website (bulletin board), but indeed the error indicates javascript:publish

Thanks,

It sounds like there's a problem with the way the web page was written, probably trying to find a function named publish(). Does he have this problem with every computer he tries, or just the one? If the problem is on every computer he tries this with, then it's the web page itself.

Thanks for the reply,

The problem is with every computer he trys and totally agree with you, it would seem that the problem is on the website. The admin at the college logged on with the users account and tried to duplicate the problem and couldn't.

The admin tells me that nobody else has sent any complaints about any errors.

I wish I could try another browser, or at least one I could change security settings on.

Is there a login you can give us for the Blackboard learning system so we can try reproducing the error ourselves?

Dan

Without one, it would be nigh-on impossible for anyone here to help.

My only suggestions without a login would be:

1. Using Firefox and seeing if the JS console shows any meaningful errors.

2. Installing the free MS JS debugger and debug the error in that.

Hope this helps,
Dan
