Java?

I cannot seem to run certain JAVA run programs or games on sites such as a live hockey draft on Yahoo or a game on certain site. In each case, I am not given an error, but rather not given anything! A square appears with those 3d shapes inside that shows that nothing has happened.

Any suggestions on what I can download to fix this?

I am running Windows XP Pro, AMD Athlon XP 2500+.

If more info is needed please let me know.
