I am a fairly Newbie Linux user. On my PIII, 500Mhz, 10GB HDD, 196 MB RAM Laptop, I have installed Linux RH 9 and all of the latest security updates. It is not for production, just as an experiment and learning Linux.
I wanted to use Mozilla 1.2.1 with Java and installed JRE 1.4 (Std edition 1.4.2_03, Def Virt Machine Vers 1.4.2_03-b02, Java Plug-in 1.4.2_03). I do get the Java console in my menues (using mainly Gnome as GUI) but when I try to use Mozilla with Java pages, it still complains about missing plug-in. The About Plug-in says that I have only installed the default plug-in libnullplugin.
I have followed the recommendations as of
I have made a symbolic link at /usr/lib/mozilla-1.2.1/plugins to /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so called libjavaplugin_oji.so and checked that the link is not broken.
I must say I am confused by the fact that there exists a file structure under /usr/java../plugin and a file structure .../java under Mozilla's file structure with similar but not exactly the same content
