Java and Delphi (Com?)

I have an upcomming project, which involves writing a piece of functionality in Java, which is capable of interfacing, with an existing delphi application.

The delphi application is open for any changes I need to make to it to make this possible, does anyone have a good suggestion for the best way to go about this?

I'm considering some implimentation of COM objects. I've had the suggestion of using a TCP connection, but that just seems messy..

Anyone got any suggestions?
