J2EE is an extension to J2SE (EE Enterprise Edition, SE Standard Edition).
You should learn basic Java programming in J2SE before moving into J2EE.

j2SE standard edition will be fine for starters.I do not know whther you will get an IDE to go with it but notepad should get you started

If you want an IDE, download Eclipse ( It's very much like MS Visual Studio.
