We recently installed OSASync, an Outlook add-in to synchronize our office contact lists. Everything is working fine except one machine. This machine somehow wound up with around 4300 deleted contacts in the Deleted Items folder. I've tried every gyration I can think of to get rid of them. Tried deleting individually as well as Empty Deleted Items option. Also tried setting Empty Deleted Items on exit.

Every single method yields the same error message: "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." I've looked through Google as well as Microsoft KB. Tried several suggestions including the automated PST file fixer that comes with Outlook. It did find & correct some errors, but the 4000+ contacts are still in Deleted Items.

Does anyone know of a way to manually reset the Deleted Items file? I'm out of ideas at this point.

Thanks in advance.

Followup: Forgot to mention that I have done all the upgrades through Office SP3.

Try using the rules wizard to create a rule to delete them. Follow carefully or you could have dire consequences....

Tools, Rules Wizard, New button, Start from a blank rule, Check messages when they arrive, Next button, no selection, Next button, Yes (rule will apply to everything), permanantly delete it, Yes, Next, Next, make sure that 'run this rule now..' & 'turn on this rule' are not selected!, Finish. Click the Run Now buttion in the rules list, select the new rule and change the 'Run In folder' to Deleted Items.

Wether it works or not, delete this rule as soon as possible, so that it doesn't accidentally get used somewhere that it shouldn't.

Good idea on the rules thing, but it resulted in the same "messaging interface unknown error". Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm about ready to punt & just rebuild a whole new pst file. Now she's even having trouble deleting newly received messages.

????????? :(
