This may not seem like the right forum for this issue, but I'm hoping someone can provide some insight. here's my problem:
I am running Symantec Mail Security for SMTP v5 with patches 170 and 171 on a server running Windows 2000 sp4 in an Exchange 5.5 environment.
I have created a Spam policy whereby E-mails detected as Spam have the subject line prepended with [Spam – NAVGW]. The messages are then to be forwarded to a specific mailbox. A high percentage of messages (including the test message detailed in the Symantec Knowledge base) are marked as spam and forwarded, but they are also delivered to the intended recipient. This does not happen with every message. I also ran a test using “VlgAGRA” as the subject. The first message was tagged and forwarded without any further action. However, repeats of this test resulted in the message being forwarded and delivered. Two tests using “VIAGRA” and “Viagra” resulted in the messages being delivered normally.
This server is processing messages that have already been processed by one of two servers running Spam Assassin. I created a compliance policy so that messages tagged as spam by those servers (which are being sent to spamtest@mycompany.com) are to be treated as being from an allowed sender. A percentage of these messages are being rescanned by SMS.
If anyone has experienced this and solved it, I would really like to know. Thanks!
