Issues post w2kSP4 and FR3 for XP

A few weeks ago I installed w2k SP4 and upgraded Citrix XP to FR3/SP3.

Since then I have had nothing but problems.

In particular the print spooler is shutting down constantly. I end up going in to the system32/spool/printers and clear everyting then it is fine for a couple of days.

Has any one else experienced this?

I'm having this issue too. I've found, so-far, that there are specific HP printers that will completely hose the spooler service when the client printer trys to be auto-created. Namely the HP LJ 2100. Driver issues are the main problem we are all dealing with for Metaframe XP FR3, SP3. Check the information at this URL. This worked for me to get things running faster. You've already been doing part of it but there is more in the registry you can do to completely clean the printer drivers from your system.

Hi,

I've found that the PCL 5e works better than the PS and the PCL 6. I've used CMC and mapped the 1200 to always use the PCL 5e.

I am still monitoring the problem, it comes and goes though, really starange.

Why MS does not have the print spooler set to auto restart, I will not know!!!

I will try some of the tips here and will check back later.

you can watch services and let them restart automatically on Windows with "Servers Alive!"
